Viva Las Vegas - Rockabilly weekend
Viva Las Vegas is a rockabilly lifestyle event that is celebrating 21 years. It has grown from a small gathering of cars and band into an event with over 20,000 people, 700 cars and over 100 bands. The attendees range from teens to people in their eighties.
The event is still small enough that it's possible to get up close to the cars and the bands. Every year I come away with new friends from all over the world that share a fondness for the music, cars and fashions of the post war era.
Music and dancing go on virtually twenty four hours a day, and some of the most interesting music goes on between midnight and three in the morning.
Tom Ingram, the producer of the event, books a blend of young artists and a number of the musicians that defined the early days of rock and roll. This year the headliners are Jerry Lee Lewis and Brian Setzer. Jerry Lee was at the beginnings of rock and roll, and Brian, along with the Stray Cats reintroduced rockabilly to a younger audience.
As a photographer, lifestyle events like Viva Las Vegas, are a great place to capture a lot of interesting people and vehicles.
